It’s a Lifestyle! Tips on How to Organize a Busy Life!

Hi Everyone!

As some of you have requested, I am sharing my organizing tips!

Being a mom, wife, having a full-time job, being a full-time graduate student, having a social life, all while trying to make sure that I am balancing my time appropriately and taking care of my well-being, can get hectic!

Oh, also while trying not to go crazy…

I love Britney, no shade. The imagery though.

However, I manage it pretty well. For the busy mom, busy dad, business woman, business man, student, etc, here’s how.

I literally cannot function without my planner (I’m the crazy calendar lady lol)!

For about three years now, I have been using the Erin Condren Life Planner. It’s a bit on the pricey scale, but it’s customizable and comes with many items. The good news is, I found an even better planner that is somewhat of a twin to the Erin Condren, only cheaper and better quality (Sorry Erin).

Here’s a screenshot of what my schedule looked like at the beginning of this semester. (Oh and my pretty sunflowers! 🙂

How I start my week:

  1. I have Type-A characteristics when it comes to organization, so writing things down help me function and control my life to an extent.
  2. Between Sunday to Monday night, I plan out my week. Depending on future dates, I can sometimes plan out the month and fill in other important dates as they come.
  3. I love motivational notes, quotes, and stickers, so I use them to pep up my thoughts, motivate me to get organized and help me look forward to the week.
  4. I made some customized stickers on my computer for appointments, birthdays, bills, assignments, etc. I also use the Erin Condren stickers and accessories, The Happy Planner brand organizing tools (from Michaels or Hobby Lobby), as well as some other calendar tools from Etsy (my other favorite website!).
  5. It seems overwhelming, but it’s actually fun once you get the hang of it. I am a read/write and somewhat visual learner, so writing things down and being creative with it gives me a boost of motivation to get through the busy weeks. I’ve tried to go the electronic route and I’ve failed (not for me!).
  6. Lastly, don’t forget about your colorful sharpies and pens!

Out with the old and in with the new!

Ready to save some money?

So… I found a new calendar brand: Recollections at Michaels. It was a choice between The Happy Calendar and Recollections, and this was my first choice.

In comparison to the Erin Condren, this one is much nicer and is on sale (along with The Happy Planner) for 40% off at Michaels (Yasss). Instead of the average $25-40 (depending on type), I only paid $17.99 for it! Here is a screen shot of the new planner and organizing tools that I purchased yesterday.

Unknown-1
Top Left: Current Erin Condren Horizontal Life Calendar (Old). Right: Recollections 18 Month Horizontal Planner, Recollections: Gratitude Journal, Recollections: Menu Planning, Recollections: Creative Year Magnet Clips and The Happy Planner: Productivity Stickers.

Prices:

Erin Condren “Ikat” Life Planner: $55

Recollections 18 Month Horizontal Planner: $17 (There is also a vertical layout, timeline layout, pregnancy calendar and fitness calendar by this brand as well).

Recollections: Gratitude Journal: $4.99

Recollections: Menu Planning: $4.99 (For those of you who requested family meal planning for the busy mom. Blog post coming soon).

Recollections: Creative Year Magnet Clips: $3.99

The Happy Planner: Productivity Stickers: $19.99

The calendar bag is a little extreme for some, but I am extreme when it comes to organizing, so it was totally necessary. It’s actually an iPad bag that I purchased from Wal-Mart last year.

Erin Condren and The Happy Planner also have planners for teachers! If you are an educator, you get 15% off your purchase at Michaels!

Let me know if you all would like a thorough video of how I plan out my week using the calendar method and I will be glad to make one! I hope this helps!

With Love,

Dominique
